As PowerOn continues our work in supporting the LGBTQ+ community, our reach grows and our work expands. After several years of constant program growth, and new abilities to reach into our community like never before, we have updated the PowerOn mission statement. We believe that this update better reflects the totality of PowerOn’s work as it is today and allows us to embrace future opportunities for the program.
With a profound commitment to making access to technology and connectivity easier for the LGBTQ+ community, we are proud to share the new mission statement!
PowerOn is built on the foundation that digital rights are human rights, and our mission is to bridge the digital gap in the LGBTQ+ community. We provide technology, resources for internet access, and connection to vital information, research, and advocacy to both LGBTQ+ organizations and individual community members. We empower the LGBTQ+ community to transform their lives through technology.
As we continue with tech distributions through the Community Tech Grant and the Individual Tech Grant, as well as the launch of our Digital Navigator program, we strive to create a great and long lasting impact in the LGBTQ+ community at large. Each sentence was mindfully constructed to represent what we do and stand for.
“PowerOn is built on the foundation that digital rights are human rights, and our mission is to bridge the digital gap in the LGBTQ+ community”
Through our own experience and those shared by our community over the years, especially through the Covid-19 pandemic, we stand behind the fundamental idea that “digital rights are human rights”. All human rights should be universal and indivisible, including the access to technology and the internet, which plays a vital role in enabling our community to both survive and thrive.
We provide technology, resources for internet access, and connection to vital information, research, and advocacy to both LGBTQ+ organizations and individual community members.
Through the Community Tech Grant and Individual Tech Grant, we provide technological devices to different members of the LGBTQ+ community through our partner centers and different organizations. These grants allow us to provide desktops, laptops, cellphones, tablets and printers to help cover the costs of technology that can limit the work that organizations and partner centers are accomplishing, as well as close the digital gap in the LGBTQ+ community. Through our Digital Navigator program we also provide resources for internet access by connecting community members with information about the FCC’s Affordable Connectivity Program, Digital Navigator training sessions, and more! PowerOn also provides resources for the community to use for individual necessities as well as research and advocacy that we hope to continue to expand on in the future.
We empower the LGBTQ+ community to transform their lives through technology.
Through our work, we strive to transform the lives of the LGBTQ+ community in all aspects. From facilitating access to basic needs to creating community and spaces, we empower LGBTQ+ individuals to make meaningful changes to their lives on all levels.
